Our store's namesake comes from the Greek word helios meaning “sun” and anthos for “flower”. Helianthus is Zagat-rated and was featured in New York's Time Out magazine and New York Magazine's The Cut. We are also part of NYU's student discount program.
Our stores carry a meticulously edited collection of designers from around the world. We offer a balance of both established labels and talented up-and-coming designers. Before hitting our store racks, each piece is evaluated for its aesthetics, “wearability”, and of course, quality. This allows us to offer a unique fashion mix that is sophisticated, edgy, and yet, still girly.
Owner Grace Wang, opened the doors to the first Helianthus store in the Summer of 2007, right across the street from NYU. Just a block away from Washington Square Park, the store flourished after a year and a half. This allowed us to open our second location in Soho on Spring Street in the Spring of 2009.
Grace Wang gets fashion. Although born in the United States, Grace grew up in Taiwan, spending her formative years as a city girl living in Taipei. She returned to the United States full-time starting in the Fall of 2001 when she attended New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. After Grace graduated from FIT in 2005, she worked for a variety of brands as a designer. While she toiled away for other brands, Grace began to notice a need for an edgy look that is both sophisticated and girly. Settling on opening a boutique first with selective collections before opening her own line, Helianthus was born.
